The night before was a total sleepless night…that few hours to reach morning seemed forever. Though I have gone to Tasik Temenggor prior to this but Tasik Kenyir was my first.
Too many stories were told that fishing in Tasik Kenyir wasn't fruitful as compared to maybe 8-10 years ago. It was way over-fished either by unethical civilians by netting or other means in harvesting the whole lake of big and small fishes at the same time.
Bearing that in mind, expectation of good catches was low…it was more of relaxing holiday, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, back to nature where you find all the greens, the fresh air…aaarghhh…it was good!!! The first day, many catches but they were way too small to be considered as catches…all were released to fight another day. Came afternoon, lunch-time…it was SUMPTIOUS….great standards and varieties in a place like Tasik Kenyir…..thereafter, it's splashing time to the waterfalls….
This was the time we hit our first BONUS….we saw wild elephants..yes, you didn't read wrongly….we saw wild elephants, in fact a huge group of them, maybe about 15 or more, munching grasses and plants. Watching them from the boat was GREAT, even greater than being in a safari….come on, how often do we get to see wild elephants?
Thereafter, we're back to our chalets to continue our relaxing time…..some played cards, some fishing, some just plainly relax….still no sizeable catches. Kev reminded us to stay alert for the night fishing as in their previous trip, 1 of the member landed a 11kg Featherback (Belida)…..hmmmm…this somehow gave us some enlightening for a hopeful mission towards night.
The sun had set, darkness had crept in….stomachs were full with yet another sumptious dinner……those not fishing continued their card games, while the rest of us put on fresh baits and cast our lines….now, it's the waiting game…..minutes passed, hours passed, we all thought to ourselves, “Wat the heck?? Where are those featherbacks?”….Jackie brought his laptop out, put on C.S.I…..hahaa, at least that killed our boredom though.
Midnight had passed, yet our rods were as still as the water…..we were like, sighhhh…another uneventful night we guessed. Slowly, tiredness began to take over our weary bodies, 1 by 1 knocked out including myself…..I was in dreamland, perhaps that time was about 2am…suddenly, someone shouted “TOU YUE AH….PING GOR GEH CHOOK” (translation : “It's a featherback…whose rod is this?”) we were all awoken, we looked around, hahhh, it was my rod. I took over and landed the featherback with Sing Loong's help…yeah..it's Sing Loong ok, not Jackie Chan laaa…it was a nice sized featherback, tipped the scale at 2.4kg…not too bad!!!
Jeng..jeng…jeng….more to come…to be continued
